The Nasty Ten: 10 Ways To Disrupt Your Success

For some people who are failing to become successful, they are their own enemies.

From time to time, we are all guilty of behaviors that hinder our own success. If you commit the following blunders, you will be undermining your own success.

1. Forget your goals and visions, or not having them at all. What do you want to achieve in your business, in the short and long term? What do you visualize enjoying after you have achieved these goals - financial security, better life styles, a new home or car, a holiday? Set specific goals and the activities you will need to undertake in order to achieve these goals. If you do not set down specific goals, or if you forget about them during your journey towards success, then you are sabotaging your success.

2. Lose confidence in yourself. You have the goals, but most importantly you will need the confidence that you can do it!

3. Lack of knowledge or stop learning. You do not need to physically go back to college to learn. There are now various channels through which you can learn. Often, what you need to succeed personally or financially is not learnt in a university degree! Search for personal and financial development training programs, and equip yourself with the knowledge and tools you will need to become successful. Successful people never stop learning; in fact they tend to have an insatiable desire for knowledge. Search the internet, find the best learning programs, read books - just learn, learn and learn. Invest a little in educating yourself as this will help you achieve your goals.

4. Think that you can become successful without any investment. This is a common reason why people fail to become successful. Everyone wants something for nothing! Well, if it is something that will make you a millionaire, then you must be prepared to investment some money and effort into it. No genuine long term business can thrive without initial capital outlay and consistent investment, whether they are an on- or off-line business. There are some genuine businesses which you can start and run with minimal capital outlay, but they do still need some money to grow them. Being cheap is not recommended, and it will not get you anywhere near your goals of becoming wealthy and successful.

5. Fear of failure. This is the toxic failing that keeps a lot of people away from their dreams of becoming successful. I like the quote which says "Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure". If you face a temporary setback on your quest towards success; learn from it, pick yourself up and soldier on towards your dreams. "Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success"

6. Procrastination. Yet another nasty one !
Taking action TODAY is the foundational key to all success. By procrastinating, you are missing chances to be the best you can be; to make money, and to be successful. Get rid of all the bad habits that waste your time, break down your tasks to small manageable bits, visualize the end result of your project - do all that you can to fight this deadly habit that can keep you away from your goals.

7. Lack of focus. You can have clearly laid out goals on the success you want to achieve, but if you do not have focus, you will soon sabotage your success. There are a lot of 'business opportunities' that will arrive in your inbox daily - most of which are scams, no matter how genuine and promising they sound. When you are starting your online business, you can also easily become overloaded with information. Well, in some cases the information overload can simply stop you from taking any action! The trick is to be focused. Have a list of your things to do everyday. Everyday, do something towards building your business.

8. Be easily discouraged. This is a common one. Your family or friends may not believe that you will succeed. Do not let this discourage you. It is recommended that you have a good network of positive people who can support and encourage you as you work towards your success. People will say discouraging words, discouraging things will happen around you; but it is only you who can let that get to your mind and affect you.

9. Dislike constant change. In order to be successful, you must be constantly improving yourself, your business, and your products. If have an online business - this is even more important since the internet is very dynamic. Stay on top of recent developments and be constantly learning new ways of running and growing your business.

10. Lack of dedication. This is the vital one. If you want something badly enough, it will be yours. A lot of people fail because they do not have the necessary desire to become successful.

In conclusion, I will share with you these quotes on success: "Success isn't a result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire". "What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose". "A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him". "Flaming enthusiasm, backed up by horse sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success".

Go get it, and be successful!

The Gratitude Attitude

Gratitude is one of the most powerful forces in the Universe. It may not look as good as money, a big car, a palatial house, or the latest makeover – in fact, you can't see it at all – but, as I'm going to show you, gratitude has more power to change your life than all these material things put together.

The dictionary tells us that gratitude is "the expression of gratefulness and thanks" but this doesn't begin to convey its real effect. Here are an alternative set of definitions.

Gratitude stops you taking your life for granted and helps you realize how many good things you have in your life.
Gratitude makes others feel better.
Gratitude makes you feel better. In the words of an Arabian proverb, "The hand that gives the roses always keeps some of the scent."
Gratitude raises your awareness of things around you.
Gratitude is easy, quick, and simple.
Gratitude is an instant blues-breaker and stress-reliever.
Gratitude changes your view of so-called "bad" things.
Gratitude frees you from petty annoyances.
Gratitude inspires you.
Gratitude puts your thoughts and feelings on a high vibration level that in turn attracts back to you more things to be grateful for.
Gratitude nourishes the soul.
Gratitude is like compound interest on money in the bank: the more you put in, the more you get out.
Gratitude is a spiritual act because it acknowledges that the origin of all good things is a source outside ourselves.
Gratitude puts you on a direct line to God.

That's the "what" of gratitude. To show you the "how", here are three things you can do to make the Gratitude Attitude a firm fixture in your life.

1. Create a Thank Bank. A Thank Bank is simply a place where you can jot down all the things that you are grateful for in your life. You can split the bank into different accounts such as Family, Surroundings and Work, and then simply start writing out your thanks until you stop. Put your list somewhere safe and pull it out when you're feeling down and you'll instantly change your mood.
2. Show Gratitude Quietly. Don't turn gratitude into a promotional or motivational tool. Too much thanks is as ineffective as too little. Instead, express your thanks in quiet ways: a thought, a prayer, a one-on-one word, a note of appreciation. Give people gifts of thanks that aren't bought at shops: a bit of your time, a sacrifice, something valuable to you. Remember the story in the Bible of the widow, who gave a small money gift in thanks even though it was worth everything to her.

3. Always Replace the 3 C's With the 3 A's. If you work or manage others, and sometimes feel the need to use one of the 3 C's – complaining, condemning, and criticizing – replace them with the 3 A's of Accepting, Acknowledging, and Appreciating. Accept people for who they are; acknowledge them for what they do; and appreciate them for just being around. Remember that when you appreciate others, your reputation and respect appreciates too.

There's nothing complicated about gratitude. It's something we can all do. We so often don't do it because we forget, because we focus on the few so-called bad things in our lives, and because we take the wonderful things for granted. So change your life. Put gratitude just below your level of consciousness, and every day will become one of joy and delight.

Why Are You Not Achieving Your Goals Successfully?

Is your goal setting making you unhappy?
Have you ever created a goal and got frustrated because of it?
Are you trapping yourself with your goal setting strategies?

Now is the time to learn better strategies that will take you straight to success while having fun during the process of getting there because when you apply this advice you will get there!

A goal is something you want to have or something you want to change in your life. It is basically a project you can manage in a smart way so that in the end you'll find yourself where you wanted to be when you stated your goal, and began to take steps towards making it happen. But first it starts out in your mind and adopting better thinking strategies followed by powerful action actually will ensure your success, which is what you want… do you not?

Many if not most of the people make New Year's resolutions and set up goals to quit shortly after that because they feel unhappy and frustrated. The reason is, they constantly compare their actual unsatisfying situation with the ideal goal they want to reach and the only thing they can see is the wide gap between the two places. You feel unhappy and you end up spending lots of energy to keep you constantly motivated when you don't feel like doing anything because it is impossible to be motivated all the time. And before long you quit!

In other words, if you delay any kind of gratification or feelings of satisfaction until the ideal goal is completely achieved, you are actually making sure you will not accomplish your goal. Some goals can't be achieved over night so the more you delay the good feelings you think you'll have when you achieve your final goal, the more difficult it will become to achieve. It is that simple!

There is another aspect of unsuccessful goal setting, watch out! If you decide you are a success only and only if you shed off these 30 pounds or when you are a millionaire, perhaps when you buy that Mercedes and have it standing in your drive way, then you are trapped in a place where there is not escape, as you will be denying yourself any good feelings to keep going… unless you do it the way I am about to share with you.

If you wanted to cross over a river, you would use a bridge to walk on until you reach the other side and if you wanted to grab something that sits on a high shelf you would use a ladder, so why would accomplishing a goal be any different?

Now, what can you do differently and in the present moment to ensure your goals will be successfully accomplished and with fun?

Pick a goal: what do you want?
It can be anything but let's take the example of a weight loss goal.
Solution 1: make a power decision. What is the first thing you will notice when heading towards your goal? What is the first success?
You want to shed off 20 pounds so if you notice that you shed 2 pounds on your way, congratulate yourself and keep going. Do more of the things you notice bring about success.

Build a bridge between where you were when you started and your final goal. You simply make smaller steps and these little goals will be easy to achieve. The result will surprise you because it will lead you straight to your wished big goal. Keep going and keep rewarding yourself and feeling good about what you've already achieved while feeling certain that sooner or later you will be at your final destination!

Solution 2: keep a journal of your progress and successive successes on the way to your goal. People tend to forget what they have already achieved and where they were when they started their journey towards a goal, so by keeping it all written down you can go back any time and see how far you've come already and that will keep you on track and highly motivated. It makes the whole project fun and worth going for.

These two important strategies will show you that you are a success and that you don't have to wait for any final result to feel good about it or about yourself. In fact whatever feelings you think or believe you will have when your goal has manifested in the real world, start on your way by having them right now and build your bridge to success from then on.

What you've learned so far to achieve a goal with success is this: it is very helpful to have a concrete and easy way to track your progress. Find a way to make your goal as concrete as possible and break it down to smaller steps you can accomplish with success.

And to make your goal achievement even easier and more of a success follow these steps:
Choose a goal
Check whether the goal is good for you and will enrich your life
Find the resources that will help you achieve your goal: information, people to help you, advice…
Prioritize your goal so you keep hitting your target until you hit it finally
Track your goal, the progress and success journal will help you with that
The freedom to change or even discard your goal if you don't want it anymore or if it no longer suits you

What now? If you have goals that you've already started working on, make them easy to track and start your progress and success journal. Walk the bridge step by successful step, all the way to your final success!

What Is The Prerequisite For Creating A Life Of Success?!

How many times have you blamed circumstances and make excuses for not being successful?

You can create tons of excuses for not being successful but nothing will change.

Blaming makes you feel like a victim with no power or control over your life or destiny.

Blaming and making excuses will destroy your energy and vitality and leave you with a feeling of frustration and desperation.

Your life will not change until you take 100% responsibility of your life.

You must give up all excuses and stop any blames.

Stop blaming your parents, education, friends, spouse, coworkers, boss, weather, country, government, ...etc

If you continue blaming and making excuses then congratulations... You will fail!!!!

"99% of all failures come from people who have a habit of making excuses" - George Washington Carver.

Engrave the above quote in your mind. You only fail when you surrender and loose persistence. And you will surrender by starting to blame and make excuses.

But if you take 100% responsibility of your life you will try again and again until you achieve what you want. Because only you can get the right results and you will waste your time by blaming circumstances.

If you are not convinced, then before I prove it to you lets agree on this:

"At least act as if you are 100% responsible"

If you don't believe that you are 100% responsible of your life and that everything happens to you results from your decisions and actions, then at least act AS IF you are.

This will decrease your level of blaming, increase your chances of success and provide you with confidence in yourself and abilities.

If you want a proof that you are 100% responsible then lets discuss the following formula which I learned from Jack Canfield's book called "The Success Principles"

Lets go back to your math classes…

E+R=O

Event + Response = Outcome

Your outcome only depends on your response to a certain event.

You have no control over events or circumstances. You only have control over yourself and your responses.

You lost your control long time ago due to myths like "no body can change circumstances", "external factors determine your destiny" and all similar staff you have learned in the past.

Now forget about your past and focus on the following two choices:

1. You can blame your circumstances and make excuses but you will not reach anything you want. 2. You can change your responses to a certain event until you get what you want. And this will make all the difference.

Gain control of your thinking, decisions, actions, responses, etc. and you are on your greatness path.

Take 100% responsibility of your life. You have control over your thoughts and actions. So, don't let go of your ultimate power.

And strive for success.

My friend you can make a difference.

I believe in you.

Creating Greater Success Through Reflection

If I could give you a tool or resource that would change your life in positive ways, change your results, create more happiness in your life and help you get better at anything you desired . . . And if I could promise you that this tool would cost you nothing, require only yourself and could be used at any time . . .

Would you be interested?

I'll bet you would.

Now at the risk of sounding a little bit like a carnival barker or used car salesperson what I just told you isn't hype – there is such a tool. And you already possess it.

The tool is reflection.

I'm sure that you know people that have been on a job for 10 years and have continued to get better and better at their work and you probably also know people who have been on a job for ten years, but it is like they have one year of experience, ten times. In other words, they never really reflected on their work and results and so nothing seems to get better. They don't seem to learn from their past experiences.

Which of these people would you hire? Which of these people do you want on your team?

But I'm Too Busy

The number one reason I hear for people not reflecting is that they are too busy. They are too busy moving from task to task, from project to project, and event to event. When they recount this challenge to me they end by asking, "When would I have time to reflect?"

Our lives are much different than were the lives our grandparents. 75 or 100 years ago in the evening people would gather around a table or sit on the front porch and sip iced tea and visit about their day. What they were doing was relaxing and, while not in a very structured way, they were reflecting on their day.

We all know that this type of reflection works because as one of the things we ask our children when they come home from school is "How was your day?"

We say we are too busy – that the reason we don't reflect is that we don't have porch time. Somehow we do find television time – and while there is nothing wrong with television - it doesn't allow us the space, time or opportunity to reflect as we sit watching it.

Other Reasons

Time is typically our excuse, but it isn't the only reason we don't reflect. We also don't reflect because:

We don't think about it.
We don't realize the importance of it.
We don't value it.
We don't think we know how to do it.

Hopefully reading this helps you get past the first reasons. Let me deal now with the last one – the issue of skill.

Examples

We all know how to reflect, consider . . .

Sitting around a table with friends playing a card game. In between hands, people are talking about what they could have done, should've done, might've done – all of this conversation is simple reflection. And while some people playing the game don't like to "overanalyze it," spending that time in conversation about what just happened will make us better card players in the future.

Or for those in a different generation, the reflection is the time they take between two rounds in a video game as they quickly think about what happened and how they do it differently the next time.

Golfers quickly analyze their swing as they watch the trajectory of their shots, thinking about what worked and what they might adjust.

And we do it at work, thinking about how the meeting or presentation went as we leave and move to the next item on our calendar.

So we know how, and we even do it sometimes, but how can we use this skill more successfully more often?

How to Reflect More Effectively

Make time. Reflection is about having time. We all have the time, regardless of how busy are schedules are. Reflect in the shower. Reflect on the drive to work (turn off your radio or your iPod and think). Reflect in the moments before you go to sleep. Reflect with your family as you eat a meal. Turn off the television. There is time – we just have to carve it out.

Ask questions. Reflection is about thinking and questions help our brains think. Consider using his list of questions as your "starter set" of reflective questions – the questions to help you think about what happened and what you can learn.

What worked? Why?
What didn't work? Why?
What does this situation remind you of?
How can I use this experience?
How does this experience relate to other situations I've been in? What can I learn for that situation?
Knowing what I know now, what would I do differently next time?

Think more broadly. Don't just apply your thinking to how you would do this exact same task or respond in this exact same situation the next time. Our lives are too complex for that! Think about what you can take from this experience and apply to other related or perhaps even unrelated situations. Look for generalizations, patterns, tendencies and underlying principles. When we think more broadly we make our reflection time infinitely more beneficial to our lives.

This is some of my reflection on reflection. As we practice this skill we will get better at it and our results will begin to improve dramatically. Make the time. Ask the questions. And by all means apply what you learned. When you do this, you will make your life experiences your most precious source of learning, and your most fertile ground for your own success.

The Mind Set Of Success - In The Beginning, There Was A Thought

Thoughts are the starting point to all that we do, both good and bad, either success or failure. People underestimate the power of thought. Thoughts are things. They are energy. Every thought leaves its trace upon our minds.

What we let into our minds and hold onto governs what our circumstances and our actions are.

Each individual has the seeds of success within him. The seeds of success are the thoughts that they carry around with them. We are all the product of our own thinking and beliefs.

"Every thought seed sown or allowed to fall into the mind, and take root there, produces its own, blossoming sooner or later into act, and bearing its own fruitage of opportunity and circumstances."

James Allen – "As a Man Thinketh"

Sustained mind control is one of the most difficult endeavors one may undertake but it is also one of the most rewarding.

Create and control your thoughts and you can become what you want to become. A person can live the way they want to live when they learn to think what they want to think.

You are what you think about most of the time. A person who is seeking success and a higher life, strives to keep their mind on the positive and the constructive. We gradually grow into what we are holding in our minds.

"We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. And with our thoughts, we make our world.

Buddha

If you want to make positive changes in your life, you need to begin with what is in your mind. Our thoughts are the tools with which we build our lives.

The key is to keep your mind on the big picture and the goals leading to it. Think only of what you want, not on what you don't want.

Replace negative thinking, unproductive worrying, and thoughts of fear with positive, imaginative, and constructive thinking.

"Your life is controlled by your thoughts. Your thoughts are controlled by your goals."

Earl Nightingale

A great way to keep your mind on what you want is to carry a goal card with you. The goal card lists the top goals you are working on. Just thinking of your goal, particularly, the end result, keeps your mind productive and under your control.

Keeping your mind busy with productive matters will prevent negative thoughts from creeping in.

"If you fail to control your own mind, you may be sure you will control nothing else."

Napoleon Hill"

Mind control is a result of self-discipline and habit. You either control your mind or it controls you."

Napoleon Hill

A controlled, focused mind pays attention to thoughts, words, actions, and plans. A person who lets their mind wander aimlessly around will never achieve lasting success.

Hold your ideal in your mind until it becomes a mental habit. Focus on it to the exclusion of all other things until it becomes a reality.

Slowly but surely, sustained positive thinking creates an irresistible momentum. People begin to notice a change in you. More opportunities come your way. You feel more confident. Gradually your outer environment begins to grow in the likeness of your inner environment.

It's Better to Make Mistakes Than To Be a Perfectionist

Some people waste their lives trying to avoid making mistakes, but cripple their careers since perfection isn't attainable. They ultimately make fewer mistakes but accomplish less because they waste so much time trying to make things perfect. Time is money in business. Doing a good job today is more profitable than doing a great job tomorrow.

Rock star Jon Bon Jovi's career might have ended before it started had he not understood this principle. He was only 21 when he won a contest with a radio station to record his first song in 1983. He quickly formed a band and released a debut album that went gold the following year. Suddenly they were opening a concert for ZZ Top at Madison Square Garden. They were rushed to record a second album and strike while the iron was hot. It was released in 1985 to poor reviews. Jon was unhappy with the album and wanted to do better, but timing was critical. The band moved past this bump in the road and released a better written and produced third album in 1986. Jon still wasn't happy with the album because he didn't think one particular song was good enough to be included. Fortunately for him, he listened to the people who knew the business side of music. That song was "You Give Love a Bad Name". It became one of the band's most well-known singles and helped send the album straight to number one. This launched them into super stardom and they went on to sell more than 100 million albums. Had they waited until the second album was perfect, they might have lost the support of their record label before they got to the third.

This is what happened to rock legend Tom Scholz. He's often referred to as the smartest man in the history of rock and roll. He holds a masters degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and is listed as an inventor on 34 U.S. patents. The 1976 debut album by his band Boston sold over 16 million copies and remains the biggest selling debut album in history. It's also considered one of the best-produced albums in rock history. Scholz played every instrument on every song and produced the album himself. He's brilliant and talented. He's also a consummate perfectionist who took eight years to finish the third album. CBS/Epic Records got tired of waiting for it, sued him for breach of contract, and dropped Boston from their label.

It's okay to have high standards as long as they're realistic. It's not okay to procrastinate until everything is exactly the way you want it to be. Your employer doesn't have time to wait around until you get things perfect even if you are a genius inventor or legendary rock star. Deadlines must be kept and payroll must be met. An electrical engineer who attended my management seminar in Orlando once told me that he has to constantly remind the engineers he supervises that sometimes 90 percent is good enough.

Highly valued employees don't necessarily make fewer mistakes than run of the mill employees. In fact, they often make more mistakes because the number of mistakes increases as productivity increases. They just know the right way to do it. Making mistakes is okay as long as:

1. They're reasonable mistakes to make.
2. You catch your own mistakes.
3. You correct your own mistakes.
4. You accept responsibility.
5. You don't blame others.
6. You don't make excuses.
7. You don't hide your mistakes from your boss.
8. You learn from your mistakes.
9. You don't repeat the same mistakes.
10. You apologize when it's appropriate.
